What is the difference between The Backpack Project, Inc. and The Backpack Project of Athens?
The Backpack Project, Inc. is a student-run 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to packing and hand-delivering backpacks containing food, toiletries, and other necessities to those experiencing homelessness. Founded in 2015, TBP operates across seven cities and nine universities across the southeast. The Backpack Project of Athens is a chapter organization of The Backpack Project, Inc. based out of Athens led by students at the University of Georgia. We also do backpack packings and delivery, but have grown our initiatives to reach different needs of the homeless community.

Do I need training to volunteer with The Backpack Project of Athens?
Yes. We require all volunteers to attend a mandatory training session once a year. This will be a time to learn more about The Backpack Project of Athens, homelessness (specifically in Athens), volunteer opportunities, and protocol’s when in the field.

How do I become a member with The Backpack Project of Athens?
Once you fill out the general member form, you will be added to our GroupMe where we send out links to sign up to volunteer. You can also go to our GivePulse page to directly register for events. Please remember that you must attend a training before volunteering with us.
