ABOUT US
The Backpack Project of Athens (TBP/ATH) is a student run 501©(3) nonprofit organization that serves the homeless community in Athens, Georgia. We aim to engage with the Athens homeless population; host charitable volunteer programs based on service gaps identified in the community; raise money, help assemble, and distribute homeless care backpacks; and raise awareness about the causes of homelessness.
Founded in 2019, service, engagement, and awareness are all core tenets of The Backpack Project of Athens’ mission. These foundations are brought to life through a team of University of Georgia students and faculty who seek to drive long-term improvement within the homeless community in Athens.

Get Involved
Make a difference in Athens by Partnering, Donating, or Volunteering with us. Whether you sponsor supplies, lend a hand at a packing event, or help us spread the word, every contribution keeps our mission moving forward. Your support—big or small—means the world to us and our community.
What We Do
Every week we hold an event led entirely by students for volunteers of any age to benefit both the community and their own experiences. From Saturday Meals, to local clean-ups, to our signature backpacks– we’re dedicated to serving our community in any way possible.
